About Router Academy

Last updated

Router Academy is an independent publication about home Wi-Fi, routers and networking. We explain how the technology works, help readers diagnose connection problems, and help them choose equipment based on documented evidence.

What we cover

  • Wi-Fi — How Wi-Fi works: standards, bands, channels and coverage.
  • Routers — Choosing and understanding home routers, modems and gateways.
  • Mesh Wi-Fi — Mesh systems, backhaul and node placement.
  • Networking — Home networking fundamentals: IP, NAT, ports and cabling.
  • Troubleshooting — Diagnosing slow, dropping or patchy connections.
  • Gaming — Latency, bufferbloat and network setup for online games.
  • Security — Securing your router and home network.

How we work

Our guides are research-based. We rely on standards bodies, regulators, manufacturer documentation and independent testers, check every factual claim against that evidence before publication, and keep the research record for every guide. We label where each piece of information comes from: manufacturer specifications, independent measurements, and our own analysis are always kept separate.

We do not currently test hardware ourselves. We will only describe Router Academy testing once real testing has happened, with the method, equipment and date published alongside the results. The details are in our editorial methodology.

Who writes Router Academy

Router Academy's editor is Alex Morgan, Network Technology Editor, whose work focuses on Wi-Fi, home networking, routers, mesh systems and practical troubleshooting. Every article names its author and the publication's editor; an article names a reviewer only when someone has individually reviewed it. Credentials are only listed when they can be publicly verified, and we do not invent authors or experience.
